History Repeats Itself

So yesterday my life literally transformed into the bizarro version of my life in Southern California during the months of October and January.

Guess what I did?

I got drunk with my CHINESE host-father!

It was just like home with my real dad, so I'm not homesick!  Actually, a friend of my host parents came over bearing a gift: a bottle of yellow liquor with scorpions soaking in it.  Yes, they were dead, and apparently give the liquor some sort of medicinal property (good for the joints they told me).  Anyway, we ended up NOT drinking that liquor, but the three of us polished off 20 cans of cheap Chinese beer.  I wasn't really very drunk, although including the 2 beers I had in the afternoon my total count was probably 10 or 12 cans (or tingrs as I learned last night).  They kept trying to get me to drink the scorpion booze, but as they themselves were unwilling to I decided to shy away as well.

Anyway, some fun takeaways from yesterday evening:
1) By the time I got home from school at 6pm, they had ALREADY EATEN DINNER
2) Chinese beer is pretty weak
3) I need to do more exercise or I am going to explode considering how greasy the food here is

General China note:
You know how you can go out to Chinese food with Chinese Americans and eat eggplant with garlic sauce or Kung Pao chicken and they'll say things like "This isn't real Chinese food, blah blah blah"?

They're full of shit!  Beijing Chinese freaking LOVE kung pao chicken!  I feel like every place I go people order it!  Also I have had mushu pork (although totally different from "American" mushu pork).  Also I had eggplant with garlic sauce as well.  Clearly its better here (and greasier!) but those items are in fact REAL Chinese food!
