Beijing - Acting my Age

Its 11:27 PM, and I just got home.  I met up with my classmate Catherine and her buddy Matt to go to some bars/clubs, but ended up doing "Pre Game" at someone's apartment and bailing before actually hitting the club, someplace called "Mix".

Couple notes:
1) I haven't done "pre game" (ie. Drinking BEFORE going out) since I was like 21 years old, which is like 7 years ago.
2) If I go clubbing this weekend, it will be the most clubbing I have done in over 5 years
3) I was far and away the oldest person at the "pre game" tonight.  The next oldest was Stephan, who I believe is 24.  He would have been a college freshman when I was a senior, if that!

4) The youngest person was 21 years old
5) More than one person acted schocked when I said I was 28, and most said something like "I thought you were 22"

This is all fine.  I got used to it in Argentina, but I expected people in China, who all look 15, to think I looked really OLD!  And lets face it, I have looked better!  But I guess maybe something on my dad's side keeps me in a perpetual state of 24-hood?  My dad looked 32 for about 20 years, so there are worse things that could happen.

Anyway, tonight was absolutely silly.  I show up with my friend, and people were all excited because someone had "scored them some hash", so they were smoking hash and getting ready to go clubbing.  They were listening to the Ministy of Sound (which is fine) and planning on a late night of clubbing.  Am I wrong to say to myself sometimes "I'm too old for this shit"?

NO, because that’s what I did tonight.  I have no problem being the oldest person in a group (which I should get used to because it will be more of the same in business school).  In fact, I kind of enjoy it!  But there's a difference between going out for the sheer novelty of passing for someone younger, and going out to actually have a good time, and tonight I just wasn't feelin it.  Tomorrow I'm hoping to eat "exotic" chinese food and drink beer.  Karaoke might be involved as well…hopefully it will be interesting.  In the mean time, I'm a tired 28 year old, and its time for me to hit the sack.  28 is a great age.  I love it.
